AI Mode next to AI Overviews
Ask the same question in both and see where Google's two AI answers agree, and which one leaves your brand out.
Does Google have an API for AI Mode?
No official API
No. Search Console counts AI Mode clicks in its Web totals, and no Google API returns an AI Mode answer.
Google's guide to AI features says AI Mode traffic is included in Search Console's Performance report under the Web search type, with no separate report, and describes no API for its answers. Gemini's Grounding with Google Search gives a Gemini model search results to cite, which writes a new answer, not AI Mode's.
Clair asks the question in Google's AI Mode tab, signed out, and reads the answer and its sources off the page.

Integrate in minutes
One host, one Bearer key for every Clair API. Each call returns JSON with the same envelope, so a second API is a new path, not a new client.

How is AI Mode different from an AI Overview?
An AI Overview is a short summary Google shows above some search results. AI Mode is a separate tab that answers every question at length, and usually cites more sources.
Can I ask a follow-up question?
No. Each request is a new question with no conversation before it, as when a person opens AI Mode.
Why does the same question give a different answer each time?
Google writes each AI Mode answer anew. Nothing is cached; ask a question several times and count how often a brand appears.
What counts as a citation?
A link to a source in the answer or in the source list beside it. Product cards, a product's name linked to some page that mentions it, are not counted.
How long does a request take?
Usually 10 to 30 seconds while AI Mode writes its answer. Set your client timeout to 90 seconds.
What does the Google AI Mode API return?
Asks the question in Google's AI Mode tab, signed out, and returns the answer a person would read and every source it links. Answers change from one asking to the next, so nothing is cached: ask a question several times and count how often a brand is named or a site is cited.
How is a request counted?
Each call is one request, and each extra page is a new call. A malformed request (400) is not counted, and a request that fails on our side (5xx) is refunded.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The free tier is $1 of usage a month across every Clair API, with no card: about 86 Google AI Mode API requests if it all goes here. It resets monthly, and calls stop when the balance runs out.
What happens when I use up my plan's balance?
The API returns 429 until the next period, on every plan, and nothing is billed past the balance. An upgrade starts a new month at once, and the unused balance carries over.
Does my plan cover other Clair APIs?
Yes. One plan and one key cover every Clair API, and every call spends from the same monthly balance. Your first call starts the free tier.
