What Rating distribution means
Two products with a 4.2 average can have very different distributions: one mostly 4s, another mostly 5s with a large block of 1s. The second is polarising, and its 1-star share is where the problems are.
Tracked over time, the share of 1- and 2-star ratings moves faster than the average, especially for items with many ratings, which makes it an early signal of quality problems.
Clair returns the distribution on Amazon products as percentages per star, on Trustpilot profiles as count and percent per star, and on Google Maps places and Glassdoor companies as counts.
