Official API restricted
Does TikTok have an official API for public posts and profiles?
Not for businesses reading other accounts. The Research API excludes commercial users, and the Display API reads only users who sign in to your app.
TikTok's Research API answers "No" to whether creators, advertisers, or commercial users are eligible. The Display API returns a user's profile and videos after that user grants your app the user.info.basic and video.list permissions, so it cannot look up an account that has not signed in.
Clair reads the page TikTok shows any signed-out visitor for a public post or account and returns it as JSON. The video list and comments are not on that page, so Clair does not return them.

video_id takes the post id or a tiktok.com/@user/video/ or /photo/ link. Share links (vm.tiktok.com, tiktok.com/t/) hide the id: open one and pass the address it lands on. Counts are as the post page shows them, which rounds large numbers (35,200 likes). A post that is gone or never existed returns 404.

Are the counts exact?
Profile counts are. Post pages round large numbers, so a post shows 35,200 likes rather than the exact figure; Clair returns what the page shows.
Can I get an account's videos, comments, or search results?
No. None of them is on the page TikTok serves for a post or an account; a browser loads them afterwards with signed requests. Clair returns what the page carries.
Do photo posts work?
Yes. They come back with type photo, the images in order, and no duration.
How long do image links work?
About two days. TikTok signs cover, image, and avatar links with an expiry; download the ones you want to keep.
What does the TikTok API return?
Reads the logged-out page of a public TikTok post, by id or link, or of an account, by username. A post comes back with its views, likes, comments, shares, saves, caption, hashtags, sound, and author; photo posts include their images. A profile comes back with its followers, likes, video count, bio, and link. The page TikTok serves carries no video list or comments, so there are none here.
Which endpoints does a plan include?
All of them: Post, Profile. Each call spends this API's rate from your plan's balance.
How is a request counted?
Each call is one request, and each extra page is a new call. A malformed request (400) is not counted, and a request that fails on our side (5xx) is refunded.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The free tier is $1 of usage a month across every Clair API, with no card: about 303 TikTok API requests if it all goes here. It resets monthly, and calls stop when the balance runs out.
What happens when I use up my plan's balance?
The API returns 429 until the next period, on every plan, and nothing is billed past the balance. An upgrade starts a new month at once, and the unused balance carries over.
