AI Overview
What AI Overview means
An AI Overview is a short answer Google writes with its Gemini models and places at the top of the results page, above the organic results. Beside or below the text it lists its sources: links to the pages the answer is based on.
Google shows one on some searches only, mostly questions and research searches, and the same search can show one on one day and none on the next. Long overviews are folded behind a Show more button; the whole text is in the page.
Google counts clicks from AI Overviews in Search Console's Performance report, inside the Web totals, with no separate report. Neither Search Console nor any Google API returns the overview's text or its sources; reading them means loading the results page in a browser.

}Common questions
Can I opt a page out of AI Overviews?
Google's controls are the same as for snippets: nosnippet, data-nosnippet, and max-snippet limit what it can show from a page, and they apply to the normal snippet as well.
Is the overview the same for everyone?
No. It varies with country, language, and the searcher, and from one search to the next. Track it over repeated checks.
