What Google CID means
Every business listing on Google Maps has a CID, a number up to 20 digits long. Opening maps.google.com/?cid= followed by the number shows the listing, which is why CIDs appear in links shared from Maps and in local SEO tools.
A CID is not a place ID. The Places API takes place IDs such as ChIJ… and does not accept CIDs. The CID is the second half of the listing's data ID, the 0x…:0x… value in Maps URLs, written in hexadecimal, so either can be converted to the other.
Clair's Google Maps search and place endpoints return all three identifiers for every listing: place_id, data_id, and cid.
