YouTube video ID

The 11-character code that identifies a YouTube video, as in youtube.com/watch?v=jNQXAC9IVRw.

What YouTube video ID means

Every YouTube video has an ID of 11 characters, letters, digits, hyphens, and underscores. It appears after v= in watch URLs, after youtu.be/ in short links, and after /shorts/ for Shorts, so any of those links can be reduced to it.

The ID never changes, even if the title, description, or channel name does, so it is the key to store when tracking videos. IDs are case-sensitive.

Clair's YouTube Transcript API takes video_id, the 11-character ID, and returns the video's captions.
