ISBN
The International Standard Book Number, which identifies one edition of a book, in 10 or 13 digits.
What ISBN means
An ISBN identifies a specific edition and format of a book: the hardcover and the paperback have different ones. ISBNs have had 13 digits since 2007; older books also have a 10-digit form. A 13-digit ISBN starting 978 is the same number as the book's barcode, a GTIN-13.
On Amazon, a printed book's ASIN is its 10-digit ISBN, so ISBN-10 1098145356 is also the book's ASIN. Kindle editions and other products without an ISBN get ASINs starting with B0.
Clair's Amazon lookup endpoint takes an ISBN-13 or other GTIN and returns the matching listing; the product endpoint returns isbn_10 and isbn_13 in identifiers for books.
