What Role-based email address means

A role-based, or generic, address is read by whoever handles that function, and it survives staff changes. A personal address, such as anna.meier@, reaches one person.

The distinction matters for outreach: role addresses are published openly and suit company-level contact, while personal addresses reach decision makers but are rarely published and are covered by stricter rules in some jurisdictions. Some email providers also treat bulk mail to role addresses with more suspicion.

Clair's Website Contacts API marks each email as generic or personal in type, and sets domain_match when the address is on the company's own domain.
