A way to embed structured data in a web page as JSON, usually with schema.org vocabulary, so machines can read facts such as an address.

Definition

What JSON-LD means

JSON-LD is a W3C format for linked data in JSON. Websites put it in a script tag to describe the page for search engines: an organisation's name, logo, address, and phone; a product's price; an article's author and date. The vocabulary is almost always schema.org.

For extraction, JSON-LD is the most reliable part of a page: it is structured, and it changes less than the visible layout. It is only as accurate as the site keeps it, so it is best cross-checked against the page.

Clair's Website Contacts API reads JSON-LD, among other sources, for addresses and company details, and parsers such as Indeed, Glassdoor, Trustpilot, and AP read the structured data those sites embed.
